Itinerary:

Thursday June11: Registration and Founders Night Welcome Reception. Organized by Penny Recker and Judie Schiel with a welcome program. The room was arranged with posters and photos of the CFA.  Founder Ken Calkins was gifted an ice cream scoop and led the group to this sweet treat ice cream social buffet. CFA library was open.

Friday June12: Bus Tour—Discover Gloucester, visiting Gloucester’s memorials and historic sites. We stopped at Stage Fort Rock, took a group photo at the fisherman’s memorial, toured the Cape Ann Museum, and drove over the Blynman Bridge. For lunch we visited the First Unitarian Universalist Church, Gloucester’s oldest church building, where the congregation served us a nice lunch. This church is rooted in the first church of Gloucester begun by our ancestors --the Welsh Company. We stopped by cousin Andy & Peggy Calkins’ house for a group photo on the lawn. The Ryan and Wood Distillery invited us to tour the place, marking a barrel with our name: “Calkins Family Association”. That was filled with rum, but we must wait at least 3 years for it to age. Local lobster for dinner at the Gloucester House!

Saturday June 13: various genealogy and history programs given in the morning. Programs included: 1) How Will You Share Genealogy?” by Penny Recker. 2) “Confusion! 4Kinds of DNA for Genetic Genealogy” by Judie Schiel. 3)  “Share Your Inner Storyteller” by Nanette Armstrong. Lunch served followed by a ‘win your pick’ prize table. The library was open hosted by Ken Calkins and Gary Boyd Roberts. The board of directors held a board meeting. Dinner was held at the Bisuteki Japanese Steakhouse in the hotel. Knives and flames were tossed around! Closing ceremony with Boston Cream Pie for dessert was held afterwards with Calkins cousin and renowned genealogist Gary Boyd Roberts as the keynote speaker. Topic: “Discover Your Notable Distant Kin via both Calkins and Royce.”

Sunday June14: Casual get-together over breakfast and a chance to visit the CFA library.
